A woman Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal filed an FIR against her husband for divorcing her by uttering triple talaq on a WhatsApp call. The 42-year-old said in her complaint that the incident occurred on July 31.

The woman has also alleged that her husband often harassed her for dowry. The accused in June told the woman to bring 25 lakhs from her parents if she wanted to stay with him. He later forced her to leave the house, the woman stated in her complaint.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday promised to ensure justice for the woman in Bhopal. Chouhan took to Twitter to say that “some infuriated people are playing with this law”.

"After fighting for the self-respect and justice of our Muslim sisters for years, the Central Government under the leadership of @narendramodi enacted a law to abolish the #TripleTalaaq but still some infuriated people are playing with this law," he said.

"In Bhopal this morning, a Muslim sister has lodged an FIR after being given triple talaq by her husband who sent divorce messages on mobile. I assure the sister that the Madhya Pradesh police will do everything possible to ensure justice," he added.

"I have spoken to the Director-General of Police (DGP) on the issue and asked him to coordinate with the Bengaluru police for taking proper action for getting justice to the Muslim sister," the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said in another tweet.

A bill was passed in Parliament on July 31 last year that led to the abolishing of the Triple Talaq. Triple Talaq is prohibited under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
