For the lineup that includes the iPhone 11, iPhone SE and iPhone XR on sale in India right now. It is seen as a boost to the Make in India initiative. Apple is already using these Foxconn production facilities to manufacture the iPhone XR in India. Foxconn, is headquartered in Taiwan. Foxconn also makes phones for Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi in India, at its manufacturing plants in Andhra Pradesh.
Although Apple has not released any confirmation of this development, it was reported by The Economic Times. The report further states that production will be stepped up in stages. “We are fully moving forward with the next steps there (in India), and maybe in a few months we can reveal the next steps on our website and report back to everyone. We will invest more in it, ”Liu Young-Way, chairman of Foxconn, said at the company's annual general meeting in June.
"This will reduce reliance on China," two senior industry officials told the Economic Times. Officials said they are not currently considering the option of selling the Chinese-made iPhone 11 in India. Apple's decision will save them 22% of import tax.
In addition, the company has said that it is considering manufacturing the iPhone SE at its Wistron plant in Bangalore. Apple will also get the benefit of a production linked incentive (PLI) scheme from the Center. Their decision will also boost the localization of Apple products in the country. In addition, Apple will be able to expand its product network outside of China.
