A 16-year-old boy from Mundra in Gujarat was detained for allegedly issuing threats to India’s former cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s five-year-old daughter Ziva.
“The class 12 student from Namna Kapaya village was detained for questioning in connection with a disgusting threat message that was posted on the Instagram account of Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni a few days back,” the Kutch (West) superintendent of Police Saurabh Singh told the reporters.
The teenager “confessed” to have posted the threatening messages on Sakshi Dhoni’s Instagram account after he was detained by the Police. The threatening messages were posted after the IPL 2020 match between CSK and KKR.
Saurabh Singh said, “Ranchi Police had shared information regarding the boy with Kutch (West) Police and asked them to confirm if he was the one who had posted the threat message.”
He furthermore added, “We detained him for questioning after Ranchi Police informed us that the accused hails from Mundra in Kutch district. We have confirmed that the boy is the same who had posted the message. He will be handed over to Ranchi Police as the FIR was lodged in that city.” The SP also informed that the Ranchi Police is likely to reach Kutch tomorrow to take the custody of the teenager.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently captaining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League.
Threats to Dhoni’s family followed after CSK’s fifth consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s wife and daughter have been staying at their farmhouse in Ranchi while he is in UAE to play in the IPL. As a result of the threatening messages, security had been beefed up at Dhoni’s farmhouse. His failure with the bat during the match between CSK and KKR lead to angry fans threatening him and his family on social media. A few of those were reported to be rape threats to his daughter Ziva.
