Sri Lanka cricketer Kusal Mendis arrested after running over and killing 64-year-old cyclist

Sri Lankan star batsman Kusal Mendis was arrested by the police on Sunday. A 64-year-old man died after colliding with Mendis' car in the Panadura area of ​​Colombo, after which the police took him into custody. Mendis will be produced in court soon in front of the police. Jallia Senaratne, spokesperson SSP of Northern Police of Sri Lanka, reported the arrest of Mendis.

At around 5.30 am on Sunday, an elderly man of 64 years became involved in an accident with Mendis' car on Pundasa Road. It is being told that the deceased was riding on a bicycle. Now on Monday, Mendis will be presented before the court.

Wicketkeeper batsman Kusal Mendis made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2015. He is currently the team's leading batsman in all three formats. Mendis has scored 2,995 runs in 44 Tests for Sri Lanka, 2,167 runs in 76 ODIs and 484 runs in 26 T20 Internationals.

Mendis was part of the national team that started training after the Covid-19 lockdown. Sri Lanka's international cricket matches have been canceled due to the epidemic, including the Sri Lanka tour of India.

A six-member unit of coaches and other support staff are working with the players in a camp at the Pallekele stadium.
