After spending three months in jail, Showik Chakraborty was granted bail in the Shushant Singh Rajput related drug case earlier on Wednesday. Showik Chakraborty was questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau in the probe that arose after Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged death by suicide. He was then arrested along with Rhea Chakraborty and spent his time in jail. He spent nearly three months in jail whereas Rhea Chakraborty was granted bail a month after she was arrested.
Showik Chakraborty was arrested on 24th September. Sushant Singh Rajput’s house help Samuel Miranda was also arrested with him on the same day. They were charged with multiple sections of the anti-narcotics law.
The Mumbai Court had recently cited a judgment passed by the Supreme Court. The judgment mentioned that any confession made in the presence of an NCB officer is not admissible evidence. Since this, Showik Chakraborty had filed an application for bail in the first week of November.
When Showik Chakraborty’s sister Rhea Chakraborty was granted bail in October, he was denied bail by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay Court had then mentioned that there was enough evidence to support the fact that Showik Chakraborty was an active part of a drug syndicate.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on 14th June. He was sent to the Taloja Central Jail in Raigad. The NCB had also arrested Sushant Singh Rajput's personal staffers Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant. Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant were also granted bail by the Bombay High Court. Dipesh Sawant is obliged to appear before the police on the first Monday of every month for six months.
In the same Bollywood drug probe, actor Arjun Rampal and his girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades were later summoned by the NCB. Gabriella Demetriades's brother was found in possession of banned substances.
