The father-son duo who died due to police brutality in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, has led to widespread protests throughout the state. Reports also revealed that they were brutally sexually assaulted in police custody. The story of Jayaraj and his son Fenix of Tamil Nadu has given a big shock to the nation. In such a situation, Bollywood celebs including South Stars are also talking about it. However, the incident has not received much support from other top stars.
Independent MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani compared this incident to the murder of African-American man George Floyd in America. He also tweeted and wrote, "Dear Bollywood celebs, have you heard what has happened in Tamil Nadu? Will you be active on Instagram only on events happening in other countries?
Dear Bollywood celebrities, have you heard what happened in Tamil Nadu or does your instagram activism only extend for other countries? The George Floyds of India are far too many. The story of such police violence & sexual abuse is just heartbreaking. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix

Two sub-inspectors have been suspended. According to protesters and other locals, Jayaraj and Fenix had a mobile store in the city. Last Friday, they closed the shop around 8:15 PM. Sathankulam police station personnel, who were on patrol, allegedly arrested him for running the store outside the allotted time, and there was a fight.
Police staff visited the store again on Saturday evening and had a conversation with Jayaraj. When Fenix intervened, both father and son were taken to the police station and booked under various sections of the IPC, including Section 188 (disobedience to an order duly proclaimed by the officer) and 353 (use of force to attack officers).
On Sunday, after a medical check-up, the duo were placed in the Kovilpatti sub-prison. That night, locals claimed Fenix complained of chest pain and Jayaraj had a high fever. Both were taken to the government hospital of Kovilpatti, where Fenix died Monday night and Jayaraj succumbed on Tuesday morning.
