A sensational incident has come to light in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. Here a woman has alleged that she was raped for 10 days in a police lock-up. Five policemen, including the police station in-charge, sub-divisional police officer, have raped her, according to the allegation. The incident has been reported from last May. The woman, jailed for a murder, made the allegations before an Additional District Judge and a team of lawyers.
According to a TOI report, the team of judges and lawyers arrived to inspect the jail on 10 October. Following the woman's charge, the district judge ordered a judicial inquiry into the case. The judge has also asked the Superintendent of Police of Rewa to take action in the matter. The woman says she was raped between May 9 and May 21, while police say she was arrested on May 21.
On October 10, the woman alleged in front of the legal team in jail that the police kept her in lock-up and during this time she was raped by the police station in-charge and three constables. The woman says that a woman constable stationed at the police station opposed it, but senior officials silenced her.
Under the order of the Supreme Court, the legal team regularly visits the jails and meets the female prisoners and submits their report. Satish Mishra, who is in the legal team, asked the woman why she did not complain about it earlier? The woman said that she had told the Warden about the incident three months earlier.
