Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said on Tuesday a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police will probe the attack on Suresh Raina’s relatives in Pathankot. The attack in which the Indian cricketer's uncle and cousin died will be probed by the SIT.
The Punjab CM tweeted, “Condole the brutal attack on the kin of @ImRaina in Pathankot. Have ordered an SIT probe into the case and have asked @DGPPunjabPolice to identify & arrest the culprits at the earliest. Beta, my DC & SSP have met the family and we will make sure that the guilty are brought to justice.”

Suresh Raina, who pulled out of IPL 2020 citing ‘personal reasons’, said what happened to his family was beyond horrible. Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, he requested the Punjab police to look into the matter and catch the culprits. He also mentioned the Punjab CM in his tweet. He revealed that after his uncle was slaughtered to death, his cousin has also died August 31 night.
Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes. @capt_amarinder @CMOPb

Raina’s relatives were attacked on the intervening night of August 19 and 20 in Thariyal village of Punjab’s Pathankot district.
Raina’s uncle Ashok Kumar, 58, who suffered head injuries in the attack, died on the spot, according to the police. Ashok’s elder son Kaushal Kumar, 32, died on Monday night after battling for life for days at a private hospital. Raina’s aunt and Ashok's wife Asha Devi is still critical and on life support. Ashok’s younger son, who also suffered injuries, is out of danger.
The 33-year-old cricketer returned home from UAE last week. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is scheduled to start in the UAE on September 19.
