ODI Super League: India lose a point due to slow over-rate, Australia on top of table

In the third match of the ODI series played in Canberra, even though the Indian team was successful in winning the match, Australia won the series 2-1. With this victory, the Indian team has entered the ICC World Cup ODI Super League Points table with sixth place. Australia has made its place at the top. Before IPL 2020, Australia defeated England in their ODI series at their home. Australia is on top with 40 points, whereas India have only 9 points. 3rd ODI's victory gave India 10 points, However, due to slow over-rate, India lost a point.

India has played three matches less than Australia and number two England. Australia won the ODI series after winning the first two matches of the series and now it has reached the top with a net run rate of 0.357. India is at number six with -0.717 net run rate.

Pakistan is also on 20 points after a 2-1 series win over Zimbabwe.

This championship of 13 teams was started this year to make one-day cricket exciting.

What is the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League?

The top seven teams in the ICC World Cup ODI Super League Points Table will get direct entry into the 2023 World Cup. Being the hosts, India will get direct entry into the 50-over Cricket World Cup-2023. In this tournament, each team will play four home and four away series of three-match series. Each team will get 10 points for every win. There will be five points for every tie, no result and canceled match. There will be no points for defeat.

The third umpire will be given responsibility for the front-foot no ball in the tournament. Apart from this, penalties will also be imposed for slow-over rate and their points will be deducted.

With the rise of T20 cricket, the challenges for ODIs are increasing. Test cricket is the real challenge and the temper of T20 entertainment. In such a situation, a lot of efforts are being made by the ICC to maintain the popularity and relevance of ODI cricket. The ICC hopes that the Super League will once again make the 50-over format popular among the public.

On Wednesday, India came back to avoid a whitewash in the ODI series. Shardul Thakur took three wickets for 51 runs in his first match of the series. Hardik Pandya was adjudged man of the Match, whereas Australia's Steve Smith was declared Man of the Series.
