Rida Shaikh

As many as fifty-seven players, including twenty-two overseas players, were sold at the IPL 2021 auction that took place earlier on the 18th of February. The 2021 IPL auction was held in Chennai. Every team except the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royal has twenty-five players in their squads.

Chris Morris became the most expensive player to have ever been bought by a team at an IPL auction. While Glenn Maxwell, even though having an ordinary season in 2020, continued to chase big bucks and was eventually bought by RCB.

Apart from the capped players breaking all the records, Riley Meredith smashed the record for the most expensive uncapped player when he was bought for rupees 8 crore by the Punjab Kings. Chennai Super Kings were reportedly after off-spinning all-rounders all the time at the auction and bought Indian uncapped off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham.

India's test master Cheteshwar Pujara was picked up by CSK while Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh found place in Kolkata Knight Riders somewhat late into the auction. Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar was bought by the Mumbai Indians for rupees 20 lakh which was also his base price. He was the last player to have been picked up at the IPL 2021 auction.
