IPL 2020: Dinesh Karthik steps down, Eoin Morgan to captain Kolkata Knight Riders

Dinesh Karthik has given up the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders. Now England's batsman and one-day captain Eoin Morgan will take over the responsibility of the team. Karthik has said that he wants to focus on his batting. He has decided to give up the captaincy ahead of the match against Mumbai Indians.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore gave information about Karthik's decision to quit. He said that it takes courage to take such big decisions. He said, 'We are surprised by his decision. But we respect it. Dinesh Karthik has always thought about the team first. It takes a lot of courage to make such decisions".

Dinesh Karthik's performance in the current season of IPL has not been good with the bat. In the last match against RCB, Karthik was dismissed for just 1 run. So far he has scored only 108 runs in 7 innings. Only one half century is included in this. Perhaps this is the reason why he will now leave the captaincy and concentrate on his batting. Meanwhile, in the current IPL, KKR have won 4 out of 7 matches so far. Currently, they are at number four in the team points table.

Eoin Morgan will captain the franchise

Morgan is the current ODI captain of the England team. England's team became World Champion last year under Morgan's captaincy. Morgan was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in December last year for 5.25 crores. So far this year, Morgan has scored 175 runs in 7 innings of IPL at an average of 35.

Dinesh Karthik assumed responsibility after Gambhir stepped down from captaincy in 2017. Before the 2018 season, KKR bought him for Rs 7.4 crore. Under Kartik's captaincy, KKR stood at number four in the year 2018. While the team could not make it to the playoffs last year.
