Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who is the Union Health Minister of India has launched the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0 (IMI 3.0). The mission will be conducted in two rounds that will be beginning from February 22 and March 22 across 250 districts or urban areas that have been identified in the 28 states and 8 Union Territories. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also inaugurated the IMI 3.0 portal and released the guidelines about how to operate it. He also released the awareness material that was developed as part of the campaign.
What is Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0?
Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0 is a program that has begun by the government in order to provide immunization without any charges to children and pregnant women in India. The government of India started the “Mission Indradhanush” in December 2014 in order to escalate the program and achieve full immunization for each and every child and every pregnant woman at a very fast pace.
In a recent Press Release by the Union Health Ministry, Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed his happiness at the preparations to immunize every mother and her child. He said, “The Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0 will have two rounds starting from February 22 and March 22, 2021, and will be conducted in pre-identified 250 districts/urban areas across 28 states and 8 Union Territories across the country.”

While talking about the campaign in the context of the present Covid-19 epidemic, Vardhan stated, “The country has successfully been able to contain COVID19 and the drive for two indigenous vaccines is being carried out in the country. With this, the importance of a vaccine has never been so strongly felt. Every year the Universal Immunization Programme caters to the vaccination needs of 2.65 crore children and 2.9 crore pregnant women against 12 Vaccine-Preventable Diseases."
The Union Health Minister also said that the implementation of a program as massive as Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0 during the pandemic era shows that how the health system of India is getting better as each day passes.
