India v Australia 1st T20: India and Australia are facing against each other in the 1st T20 of the three-match series today at Canberra.
Captain Aaron Finch won the toss and has elected to bowl first.
As expected, T Natarajan, who had a fantastic ODI debut in the 3rd ODI, makes his T20 debut today. As highlighted by skipper Kohli before the start of the series, Rotation of ace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami is in place and in doing so, the Mumbai pacer Bumrah has been rested.
Mohammad Shami will lead the attack in Bumrah's absence and will be assisted by Swing bowler Deepak Chahar and Natarajan.
Kerala's Sanju Samson, who had a decent IPL 2020, made the cut ahead of Shreyas Iyer. Manish Pandey, who had a good tour of New Zealand is also part of the XI for the 1st T20
India's top-ranked T20 batsman KL Rahul will return to his opening duties after playing at no.5 in the ODIs. He opens alongside left-handed Shikhar Dhawan. The two were the top 2 highest run-getters of IPL 2021.
In one of the other surprises, India have gone without either of the spin twins Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Finger spinner Washington Sundar will assist Ravindra Jadeja in the spin department. The move, however, looks like a gamble as Jadeja had a poor IPL with the ball.
Australia on the other hand are fielding without the services of star batsman David Warner, who picked up an injury during the 2nd ODI. Warner has been replaced by explosive batsman D'Arcy Short.
