History: SpaceX Successfully Launches Two NASA Astronauts Into Orbit; Know About The Mission

Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley were selected for this mission in the year 2000 itself.

Amidst the Coronavirus crisis, For the first time NASA has sent two people to the International Space Station from a spacecraft of private company SpaceX. US President Donald Trump also witnessed this. Trump stood on the roof of Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and witnessed this historic moment. Trump was accompanied by daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jaird.

The SpaceX spacecraft in which two NASA astronauts have been sent is named The Crew Dragon. NASA crew astronaut Bob Benken and Doug Hurley are aboard as crew in The Crew Dragon, which will arrive at the International Space Station after a 19-hour journey.

Astronaut Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley were selected for this mission in the year 2000 itself. Both have gone into space twice through space shuttle. Launching of America's most trusted rocket Falcon-9 was done so that the risk should be minimized.

After 2011, such a mission was carried out in the US for the first time.

  • NASA's launch was to take place on May 27. Due to bad weather, the mission was postponed just 17 minutes before launching.
