Deepa Chatterjee, the wife of late versatile actor Soumitra Chatterjee, passes away on 4th April at the age of 83. She was admitted to Kolkata hospital on March 31st where she took her last breath at 02:55 AM due to her kidney failure. The news is confirmed by his daughter Paulomi Chatterjee. She was a Badminton player and remembered in the Bengali film industry as well because of her work in the films like Bilambita Lay and Durga.
Deepa Chatterjee and Soumitra Chatterjee got married in 1970 and have two children, Saugata Chatterjee and Paulami Bose. In a conversation with PTI, she told that “Maa breathed her last around 2:55 am. She died of kidney failure.” She was admitted to a hospital in Bidhannagar due to her illness.
Paulami lost her father in November last year. And she stated that her mother Deepa lost all interest in life after Soumitra Chatterjee went to the heavenly abode. She also told that she has been suffering from diabetes for the past 45 years. Soumitra-Deepa's long marriage ended in a Corona transition.
On October 6, 2020, Soumitra Chatterjee tested corona positive and after the test, he moved under the supervision of the expert medical facilities at the non-Covid Intensive Trauma Unit accompanying a special health care team to look after him. There he suffered a secondary infection due to the Covid-19 results. After being hospitalized for nearly a month and facing a long illness with multiple ailments he took his last breath at Bellevue Nursing Home in the month of November.
An official statement has been released by the hospital officials regarding his demise stating “We declare with a heavy heart that Shri Soumitra Chattopadhyay breathed his last at 12-3 pm at Belle Vue Clinic today (15 November 2020). We pay our homage to his soul."
