Death toll due to COVID-19 rises to 249; cases climb to 7,675

The death toll due to the novel coronavirus rose to 249 and the number of cases to 7,675 in the country on Saturday, according to the Union Health Ministry. While the number of active COVID-19 cases is 6,651, as many as 775 people were cured and discharged.

Maharashtra has reported the most coronavirus deaths at 110, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 36, Gujarat at 19 and Delhi at 14.

Punjab registered 11 deaths while Tamil Nadu has reported 9 fatalities and Telangana 12.

Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported 6 deaths each while West Bengal has registered 5 deaths.

Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh have reported 4 deaths each while Haryana has 2 deaths and Rajasthan has recorded 3 deaths.

Two deaths have been reported from Kerala. Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Assam reported one fatality each, according to the health ministry data.
