Congress faces heat for its 'selective outrage' on crimes
At a time when the country was burning under the Hathras incident, brutal murder of a priest in Rajasthan came to light. The 50-year-old priest succumbed to his injuries after being set on fire allegedly by five people who wanted to encroach on temple land. But Congress is tight-lipped on the Rajasthan priest incident in its own ruled state.
Whereas on one hand, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and others went to visit the victim's family, the opposition parties are silent on the brutal priest killing.
Not only this, Rajasthan has reported few of the brutal rape and murder cases against Dalit women too and going by the NCRB data, it has topped in crime against Dalit women. But still, Congress chooses to remain silent.
After the death of a priest in Rajasthan triggered massive protests demanding justice for the victim, the Rajasthan government has announced a financial compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family.
But is this selective outrage correct? Just as the Congress lashed out Yogi Adityanath government for the worsening law and order in the state, why is it shielding Gehlot government? BJP leaders have hit out at Rajasthan Congress and party as a whole, for being tight-lipped on these incidents.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked if the two would comment or do the same 'drama' in rape cases in Congress-ruled Rajasthan. The BJP leader was apparently referring to reports of two minors allegedly abducted from Rajasthan's Baran and taken to Jaipur and Kota where they were gang-raped for three days. Government.Union Cabinet Minister in Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that due to the instability and insensitivity of the government for the last one and a half years in Rajasthan, the law and order have almost come to a halt.
MP Manoj Rajoria, who also participated in the dharna, said that law and order have failed in the state and the situation of anarchy has spread. Rajoria said that the manner in which the priest was burnt alive in Bukna village is heartbreaking and this incident should be widely and strongly condemned.
The death of the priest in Karauli over a land dispute has sparked national furore.
WHAT IS CONGRESS SAYING?
State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasara said that such incidents cannot be averted by any political leader. He denied any connection between the incidents of Hathras and Rajasthan, adding that strict punishment will be given to culprits.Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena informed that all their demands have been accepted. He said that the financial assistance of 10 lakh rupees to the victim's family, the job on a contractual basis to one of the members of the victim's family, the demand to provide a pucca house and to remove the patwari and SHO and along with the arrest of all the accused has been fulfilled. He said that the victim's family is satisfied with the action that has been taken.
WHAT HAS BJP DONE?
The BJP has formed a 3-member team in connection with the priest's murder. On Saturday, the three-member team reached the victim's home and took stock of the situation. During this visit, Jaipur City MP Ramcharan Bohra and BJP National General Secretary Alka Gurjar were also present. BJP leaders have accused Rahul and Sonia Gandhi of indulging in politics. The public has now lost confidence in them. There is an atmosphere of anarchy and violence against women is increasing day by day instilling fear among people.
Jaipur Rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore lashed out at Congress and said that the opposition can see the crime happening in UP but they are not able to see this.
"They can see the ground for politics in UP, but they fail to see the oppression taking place in Rajasthan. To come to power, RaGa said that now justice will prevail in the state. In Rajasthan, burning priests and raping minor girls is justice. When are you coming to Rajasthan for political tourism?", he asked.
STEPS TAKEN BY ADMINISTRATION
Rajasthan governor Kalraj Mishra had a discussion with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot regarding burning of priest alive in Karauli, rape of minor in Barmer and overall law and order situation of the state. During this, Governor Mishra expressed concern with Chief Minister Gehlot over these incidents. The Chief Minister reassured the Governor that all these incidents have been taken into consideration by the State Government.
