While we’ve been constantly stepping forward in the field of industrialization and development, have we stopped to think about the impact that it has brought upon our environment? Since the inception of the race towards clinching the status of the most superior in terms of development and industries, we've been stepping backwards in terms of climate and the environment. Our actions to suit our luxuries and leisure have landed us in a situation where sooner or later we will be maledicting the same actions that we are so proud of today. Climate change is real and New Zealand is all set to declare a climate emergency to deal with the situation much more effectively.
New Zealand Government lead by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is all set to declare a climate emergency in the wake of the recent climate crisis that is being faced globally. The Government affirmed that it will introduce a motion next Wednesday to declare a climate emergency. Jacinda Ardern said, “We’ve always considered climate change to be a huge threat to our region, and it is something we must take immediate action on. Unfortunately, we were unable to progress a motion around a climate emergency in parliament in the last term, but now we’re able to.”
Jacinda Ardern takes the issue of climate change very seriously and has effectively shown the same through her actions as the Prime Minister. In her previous term, Jacinda Ardern introduced the Zero Carbon Bill. The Zero Carbon Bill sets the framework for net-zero emissions by 2050, with cross-party support in parliament.
If New Zealand successfully passes the climate emergency, then it will be one of the many countries that have done the same in a bid to tackle the issue of climate change more seriously. Countries like Canada, France, and Britain have walked the same path to focus on climate change.
