Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee used to visit his ancestral village every year during Durga Puja and for four days he used to worship Durga Maa. During this he used to do Chandipath himself. His Chandipath was also recorded. Now that he is not in this world, the recording of Chandipath done by him will now be played at Puja Pandal in Kolkata this year.
Pranab Mukherjee had memorized 13 chapters and 700 verses of Durga Saptashati and recited every year for the last 50 years along with performing Durga Puja at his ancestral home in Miriti in Birbhum district. Ravi Chattoraj, one of the organizers of the Aurobindo Setu Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee in Vidhannagar, adjoining Kolkata, and close to Pranab Mukherjee's family, said that they have decided to play the recording of Chandipath performed by Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee on four days of worship at the pandal.
He said that we have taken this decision only after his death on Monday. We will request the voice clip of Pranab Mukherjee's Chandipath containing the verses of Goddess Durga from his family members. Chattoraj said that we are sure that his Chandipath will be divine.
A spokesperson of the Pooja Committee said on Wednesday that the people of Bengal would be able to hear the glorious politician.
The puja committee will also pay tribute to Satyajit Ray to mark the maestro''s 100th birth anniversary by recreating a scene of 'Pather Panchali'.
