As Coronavirus cases continue to surge throughout the world, India faces threats of many kind especially economically. As the government beckons its citizens to donate to the Prime Minister fund (PM CARES) one is left to wonder how India’s industry giants and cherished B-town celebrities are contributing to the nation’s fight against the deadly virus. As a developing country, India for the most part remains ill-equipped in the face of such a threat. It is in such dire times that our nation needs the help of its wealthy personalities more than ever.
Industry giants such as Wipro, Infosys, Tata Sons, Reliance industries, Kotak Mahindra bank and more have all joined forces to lend support to ensure India comes out victorious against COVID-19.
Tata Sons & Tata Trusts combined have offered donations of Rs 1,500 crore. The contribution has been meted out to equip India with essential medical apparatuses such as ventilators, masks, respiratory gears and testing kits. Not only will the generous donation help in import of these equipment but also facilitate their manufacturing in our very own country.
The Wipro group and Azim Premji Foundation united, pledge Rs 1,125 crore to help medical and service fraternities serving front-line in the pandemic.
The Reliance Industries have contributed Rs 500 crore towards the PM CARES and Rs 5 crore each towards the Maharashtra and Gujarat CM funds. Furthermore, the Ambani-led RIL has set up 100 beds at a hospital in Mumbai specifically for the coronavirus patients.
Financial service providers PayTM and the HDFC group have pledged Rs 500 crore and Rs 150 crore respectively to the PM CARES fund.
Coal India and Consumer goods Company ITC pledge 220 crores and 150 crores respectively.
Among others, social media platform TikTok, PhonePe, JSW group, Bajaj group have all committed Rs 100 crore in the fight against COVID-19.
With industry tycoons providing such hefty sums as contributions, netizens reached out to their favourite Bollywood personalities. Their demand soon resulted in many celebrities to come forward to provide support via cash or kind in this period of crisis.
King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has not only pledged contributions to PM CARES and Maharashtra CM relief fund but also taken diverse initiatives such as providing 50,000 medicinal protective equipment and 2000 freshly cooked meals to health workers. And also 3 lakh meal kits to 10,000 of Mumbai’s underprivileged daily wage earners.
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar offered 25 lakh to CM’s fund urging everyone to help the government in such a trying time.
Priyanka Chopra and her pop sensation husband, Nick Jonas have forwarded their donations to 10 charities inclusive of the PM fund, No kid hungry, Goonj, etc. These charities are devoted to feeding the hungry and homeless and supporting medical personnel.
Fashion Designer Sabyasachi pledges Rs 1 crore to PM relief fund and an additional Rs 5 lakh to West Bengal CM relief fund.
Magnum Opus Baahubali’s superstar, Prabhas donated Rs 4 crore of which he pledged 3 crore to PM CARES.
Actors Vicky Kaushal and Kartik Aaryan extended their support in the form of a donation of Rs 1 crore to PM CARES and Maharashtra CM’s relief fund.
In the form of a grand and laudable gesture, famed and beloved B-town actor Akshay Kumar donated a whooping Rs. 25 crores to the PM CARES without thinking twice.
Salman Khan joined the fight against Coronavirus by providing financial assistance to his organization, Being Human’s 25,000 daily wage workers.
Noticing the plight among the daily wage workers of the South film industry, Actor Rajnikanth donated 50 lakh to their name.
