The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is currently probing alleged use of drugs by the film and entertainment industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. "Bharti Singh's name had cropped up during the interrogation of a drug peddler," an official said. They came across a drug peddler from Khar Danda area, who allegedly took Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa's name. Before searching premises of Bharti Singh and her husband, the central agency had also raided the residences of film producer Firoz Nadiadwala and actor Arjun Rampal.
While Bharti Singh was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau on the 21st of November, Saturday, Harsh Limbachiyaa was arrested on the 22nd of November, Sunday due to seizure of ganja (cannabis) from their house in Andheri. The NCB had taken both of them to Sion Hospital on Sunday for medical examination before producing them in the court. 86.5 grams of ganja was recovered from their residence in Andheri and Limbachiyaa’s Versova production house. After questioning they both accepted to have consumed drugs. "Charges of consumption of drugs have been invoked against them," said Sameer Wankhede, Zonal Director of the NCB, Mumbai. They were both sentenced to judicial custody till 4th December 2020. Charges under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) (small quantity of drugs) and 8(c) (possession of drugs) and 27 (consumption of drugs) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been invoked against the two.
On 23rd November, Monday the court heard their bail pleas. After this, both Bharti and Harsh were granted bail by a Special NDPS court in Mumbai on a bond of Rs 15,000 each. Both their applications mentioned that they could be granted bail as they have no criminal history so there should be no reason to abscond them.
