England all-rounder Ben Stokes is all set to join Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He missed the initial matches of the IPL to be in Christchurch with his ailing father. On Saturday, Rajasthan Royals tweeted a picture of Ben Stokes on his way to the UAE. Ben Stokes is expected to land on Sunday morning. He had earlier posted images on his Instagram handle with his family with the caption: “Goodbyes never get easier.”
Accordin to the rules of the IPL related to the COVID-19 protocols, Ben Stokes will be required to quarantine himself for six days on his arrival to the UAE. He is most likely to be present in the match against Delhi Capitals on the 14th of October. He won't be available to play in the match set against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Nevertheless, it might have been too early to have him on the field straightaway. Kolkata Knight Riders had experimented this with Pat Cummins but it ended the hard way. Pat Cummins ended up registering figures of 3-0-49-0.
Earlier in the summer, Ben Stokes pulled out of the test match against Pakistan to be with his father who was diagnosed with cancer. Ben Stokes later shared how his father’s cancer diagnosis meant that his “head wasn’t really” in the game and how grateful he was to have received an indefinite compassionate leave from the ECB.
To get ready for his play at the IPL, Ben Stoke started training with the redball in the middle of this month at the Sydenham Cricket Club in Christchurch. He shared a picture of the same on his Instagram account with the caption: “Wrong color ball but training’s training.”
So far, Rajasthan Royals have won two matches out of four. With Ben Stokes in the line-up, their performance will boost and the team will receive the much-needed balance. Tom Curran has been pretty extensive with the ball with figures of 1-54, 1-44, and 1-37. He will make way for Stokes in all likelihood.
