Famous choreographer Saroj Khan has passed away. She was admitted to Mumbai's Gurunanak Hospital after complaining of breathing difficulties, where she died due to cardiac arrest at 2:30 am on Friday. A few days ago her Coronavirus test was also done which had come negative. She was 72 years old, and choreographed many Bollywood stars including Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi.
On 20 June, Saroj Khan was admitted to Mumbai's Gurunanak Hospital after breathing difficulties. But on Thursday night, her health suddenly deteriorated and she breathed her last. Her body will be handed over to the cemetery in Malad on Friday.
Saroj Khan choreographed about hundreds of songs. Only few people know that Saroj Khan's real name was Nirmala Nagpal. Saroj's father Kishanchand Sadhu Singh and mother Noni Sadhu Singh migrated to India from Pakistan after the partition. Saroj started working in films as a child artiste at the age of three. Her first film was Nazrana in which she played the role of a girl named Shyama.
In the 50s, Saroj Khan started working as a background dancer. She trained with choreographer B Sohanlal. Saroj Khan became associated with the film Geeta Mera Naam, released in 1974, as an independent choreographer, although her work gained recognition after a long time. Saroj Khan's main films are Mr. India, Nagin, Chandni, Tezaab and many others.
She collaborated with Madhuri again in Kalank (2018). She won three National Awards for Best Choreography for her work in Devdas, Jab We Met and the 2007 Tamil film Shringaram.
